Historical Perspective
The Tennant name came into prominence in the Chemical Industry in 1788 when Charles Tennant developed the first controlled bleaching process for fabrics. In 1797, Charles Tennant & Company Ltd. was established and by 1835, Tennant's St. Rollox Works "were the most important chemical works in the world... covering over 1,000 acres".
Charles Tennant & Company (Canada) Ltd. was established in Toronto, Ontario in 1932. Charles Tennant Canada is a founding member of the Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors (CACD) and an active participant in several industry focused professional associations - SCC, PSG, CIFST, TOSCOT, CCTFA, ICMAD, DCAT, CHFA, and CIM to name a few.
In 1984, Charles Tennant & Company (Canada) Ltd. entered into the chemical manufacturing industry with the inception of Prospec Chemicals in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Prospec Chemicals manufactures xanthates and xanthogen formates for the Mining Industry worldwide.
